Diode color id band table. The diode is a two lead device and there is a white or black band at the cathode end. The peak inverse voltage is the maximum voltage a diode can withstand when it is reverse biased. Most manufacturers stamp the id right on the diode but some do use color banding as the method of identification.

Diodes used for rectification should have sufficient peak inverse voltage piv. Take for example a diode with brown orange and white bands at one terminal and figure out its identification number. A 1 b 2 c 5 d 10 zener diodes have additional characters which will indicate the zener voltage.

Polarity identification is simple. This letter denotes the tolerance of the zener voltages. The jedec series diode color code assumes the first two digits are 1n the next two to four digits in the part numbers are the color bands.
